If you own one of the 170 million iPods that have been sold worldwide, there is a chance you have encountered issues with the device freezing or being unable to power up.

Your iPod may fail to power on, may freeze at the Apple logo or during playback, or may lose click wheel functionality. Should this occur, there are several troubleshooting steps that will likely solve your issue:

1. Toggle the Hold switch by sliding it back and forth.

2. Reset your iPod:

- Connect your iPod to a power source. (Either your computer or a USB wall adapter.)

- Hold down the Menu Button and the Center Button for approximately ten seconds, until the screen goes blank and the iPod restarts.

- If the Apple logo appears and you are able to play music, the issue is solved.

3. Be sure to charge your iPod. If the issue is lack of power, charge your iPod for about twenty minutes, using either a USB wall adapter (recommended) or your computer. Note: If you use your computer, do not let it sleep or power off.

4. Put your iPod into Disk Mode:

- Plug your iPod in to a power source.

- Hold down the Menu Button and the Center Button for approximately ten seconds, until the screen goes blank and the iPod restarts. (The same process for resetting your iPod.)

- Now, when the Apple logo appears, release the Menu Button and Center Button and immediately press and hold the Play/Pause Button and the Center Button until the iPod boots in Disk Mode.

5. While in Disk Mode, plug the iPod into your computer and attempt to Restore it.

6. If none of these troubleshooting steps have solved your issue, you should make an appointment at the Genius Bar, call AppleCare (1.800.APL.CARE), or take your iPod in to an Apple Authorized Service Provider
